Part-Time Gallery Manager (Maternity Cover)
Byard Art is seeking an organised, proactive and personable Gallery Manager to join the team on a part-time maternity cover basis.
Working pattern: Three days per week, including one Saturday per month.
This varied role offers the opportunity to work across all aspects of gallery operations, including exhibitions and art fairs, client relations, sales administration and general business management within a busy contemporary art gallery.
Proven gallery, arts administration or retail management experience essential. Degree level education or equivalent desirable.
Responsibilities
Financial
- Report on monthly accounts to the partners
- Issue artists invoices monthly
- Reconcile petty cash and till monthly
- Check accuracy of bills as they are presented
- Be aware of regular bank standing charges and gallery commitments
- Exercise judgement on the relative priorities for creditors and debtors
- Liaise with book keepers
- Take responsibility for processing any insurance claims
Personnel
- Prioritise work and allocate tasks for other members of staff
- Keep records of holiday and sick leave
- Process Pension contributions
Gallery Operations
- Help customers in the gallery, cheerfully and positively
- Present a positive image of the gallery in looks and manner, and with a sense of humour
- Maintain and look after stock
- Carry out and report on the annual stock take
- Ensure that all movement of stock is accurately recorded on the data base
- Keep track of customer enquiries, and follow them up until there is a conclusion
- Ensure that the website is up to date, and that new art and artists are updated regularly
- Ensure the general good maintenance of the gallery including cleaning and decoration
- Be aware of any security issues, including vulnerability of art work to theft
- Take responsibility for addressing any problems that occur, and understand when escalation to partners is necessary.
- Be flexible with working time and, when necessary, come in to the gallery early or stay late for customers, artist and deliveries or collections
- Ensure sufficient general stationery available, and organise printing of gallery stationery when required
Salary
£27,000 full-time equivalent, pro rata for a 3-day working week
