Cambridge Arts Festival 2026: Gallery Crawl Guide & What to Expect

Cambridge in February has a particular charm. The city takes on a quieter, more contemplative character, with mist rising from the Cam and college architecture taking on an almost ethereal quality in the winter light. It’s the perfect setting for the Cambridge Arts Festival, and this year Byard Art is thrilled to be participating in one of the festival’s most popular events: the Gallery Crawl on Thursday 12th February from 5pm to 7pm.

The Gallery Crawl has become a highlight of Cambridge’s cultural calendar, offering both residents and visitors an opportunity to discover the city’s vibrant gallery scene in a single evening. The format is wonderfully straightforward: follow the gallery map, explore what each of eight participating venues has to offer, and enjoy complimentary bubbles along the way.

Preview: Contemporary Ceramics Exhibition

At Byard Art, we’ll be offering visitors an early look at our Contemporary Ceramics Exhibition, which officially opens on 12th February. This sneak preview provides a unique opportunity to see the exhibition before it officially launches, giving Gallery Crawl participants first access to the remarkable range of ceramic works we’ve assembled.

From Kate Reynolds’ fluid sculptural forms to Sarah Dalton’s exquisitely detailed miniature tea bowls, the exhibition showcases the extraordinary diversity of contemporary ceramic practice. Our participation in the Gallery Crawl reflects our longstanding commitment to Cambridge’s cultural life. As a gallery located in the historic heart of the city, directly opposite King’s College Chapel, we’ve always seen ourselves as part of Cambridge’s wider artistic ecosystem.

The Complete Gallery Crawl Route

The route encompasses eight distinguished venues: MODO, Byard Art, Cambridge Contemporary Art, Cambridge Contemporary Crafts, CORPUS Gallery, Soho Fine Art, Clarendon Fine Art, and Castle Fine Art. Each gallery offers something distinct, from MODO’s showcase of timeless David Hockney pieces to Clarendon Fine Art’s exhibition ‘The Shape of Water’, exclusively curated for the Cambridge Arts Festival.

CORPUS Gallery will feature a solo showcase of Malcolm Bradley’s work, whilst Cambridge Contemporary Art and Cambridge Contemporary Crafts will display their latest acquisitions across painting, jewellery, ceramics, glass, and textiles. This diversity ensures that every visitor will discover something that resonates with their personal aesthetic.

Planning Your Gallery Crawl Visit

Cambridge has always been a city that values intellectual and cultural engagement. From its world-renowned university museums to its thriving independent gallery scene, art forms an integral part of the city’s identity. The Gallery Crawl makes this cultural richness accessible to everyone, regardless of their prior experience with contemporary art.

Timing your visit to Byard Art during the Gallery Crawl means you’ll see our gallery at its most vibrant. The combination of a new exhibition opening, the buzz of Festival activity, and the pleasure of connecting with fellow art enthusiasts creates an atmosphere you won’t want to miss. Our location on King’s Parade means you’re in the heart of Cambridge, with the magnificent architecture of King’s College as your backdrop.

No booking is required – simply follow the gallery map, start wherever feels right, and let the evening unfold. We hope to see you at Byard Art between 5pm and 7pm on Thursday 12th February, glass of bubbles in hand, ready to discover the beauty and diversity of contemporary ceramics.
