Jamie Poole
Jamie Poole’s collages are engagingly deceptive, appearing like lino print from afar, but revealing density and depth on closer inspection. Using multiple layers of hand-cut paper, Poole crafts a dense thicket of colour and texture, held within delicately varnished paper. Revealing still more, elements of text, poetry, and literature permeate the artist’s work, often offering descriptors of the depicted scene, or presenting poetic musings on the artists paper vistas.
Jamie Poole draws on a range of assets for inspiration, particularly the Northamptonshire landscape, but by far, Poole’s greatest inspiration is the classical poet, John Clare. Finding a kinship with Clare’s love of their shared pastoral landscape, Poole finds joy in incorporating Clare’s words into a collage form, celebrating the natural world, and all the ways one may appreciate it.
