Bio
Claire Turner was born in 1950, and studied art and education at Goldsmith’s, specialising in silkscreen painting. Lack of time and money to set up a print studio necessitated a change of direction, and she became interested in textiles. She developed techniques and ideas through various classes and workshops. Since leaving teaching in 2004, she has been able to spend more time developing and exhibiting her work.
Claire Turner works using a variety of textile techniques. The pictures are constructed using small squares of fabric, usually silk, which are then drawn on and stitched. The aim is to capture the atmosphere, colours and architecture of the places depicted.
Cambridge, with its variety of buildings, is a constant source of inspiration, and Claire Turner never visits the city without her camera or sketchbook.
