Carol Peace Solo Exhibition

Making in Hay
I have collected peace
and put her in the clay
so within this rush, you
have space, everyday.
A short poem by Carol Peace, called ‘Making in Hay’ written in Wales where she often goes to work in clay to get away from the business of London.

Drama
Deep in cushions
of imagination.
Quilted away
from the fuss.
Letters run
to sentences
to drama
and take me in

Facing West
i.e. don’t be afraid of old age
because the sunset is often the most beautiful
And it’s completely
different gin and tonic at sunrise.

The History of Byard Art in Cambridge
Byard Art first opened in 1993 in Nottingham’s Byard Lane, on the top floor of a Victorian Lace Factory. A commercial gallery, it specialised in contemporary visual and applied arts. The relocation to Cambridge in 1998 allowed the business to expand into the corporate and public sectors. In September of 1998, Byard Art moved into a gallery space in central Cambridge on St Mary’s Passage which provided a permanent showcase for gallery artists’ original artwork.
During this time Byard developed an international reputation, supporting a regular exhibition programme as well as participating in major art fairs, including Art London (Chelsea), The London Art Fair (Islington) and the Affordable Art Fair Spring & Autumn. Byard has also exhibited in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dublin, Newcastle and Bristol as well as regularly showing at the Affordable Art Fair in New York, Amsterdam, Brussels, Milan and Hong Kong. The committed and knowledgeable staff are experienced in organising and participating in art fairs and have a strong desire to expand into the rest of Europe.
During the summer of 2009, Byard Art moved to bigger premises on King’s Parade, directly opposite King’s College. The gallery now encompasses 1,200 square feet of exhibition space over two floors and is pleased to be able to host not only a rolling exhibition programme but also a permanent collection of gallery artists.
