Ceramicist Mary Johnson spent nine years studying at art college, graduating in 2009 with a First Class Diploma in Ceramics. She uses traditional techniques working with slip decorated earthenware pottery, combined with unique and contemporary methods. Her pieces are decorated with images inspired from gardens, allotments and the streets around her, applying paint in sgraffito and sprigged effects. In 2009, Mary was awarded the ‘Enterprise Inc. Award’ through Berby University, where she then went on to receive the ‘Designer/Maker’ Membership Award of the Design Factory. Byard Art have exhibited her work since 2007, and she has participated in numerous design and craft shows across the UK.
