“I am a painter in love with painting; with a passion and urgent need to create.”
Louise Dear creates large-scale, highly contemporary work. Her neo-pop portraits of strong and seductive women are lavish, luminous and powerful, overlaid with flowers, bright patterns and paint splashes.
Each piece is made using a range of mix-media. The artist expertly layers golds, glitters and glosses onto panels of prefabricated aluminium. These panels are sanded, scratched and distressed to create the perfect background for each individual portrait. In some works, she adds elements of innocent and nostalgic kitsch- Disney animals, or fondly remembered cartoon characters.
Louise has exhibited extensively. Her paintings have sparked the interest of several major museums and are held in numerous collections including those of Rick Stein, Qatar Holdings (the owners of Harrods) and Sir Elton John.
