Kate Bajic

British jeweller Kate Bajic has over 18 years of experience exhibiting and selling her work in galleries and at exhibitions throughout the UK, Europe and the USA. She lives and works in a rural village in North Leicestershire, using the countryside and farmland around her as inspiration for her beautiful contemporary jewellery. Drawing on interests in both natural form and science Kate focuses on lichen species and their chemical compound structures as the main inspiration for her work. Their diversity offers a rich source of design material and through photography and sample collection Kate examines their minute complexity and translates aspects of this into her jewellery. Complex patterns, shapes and textures are simplified, enlarged, and repeated in intricately composed designs. Pieces are hand crafted using
precious metals often combined with semi-precious stones. Designs evolve through experimenting with composition, playing with contrasting colours, or by adding textural details such as hand stamped surface finishes and tiny elements of gold. More recently Kate has begun to use one-of-a-kind statement gemstones as a focal point for her silver work. Kate creates all her jewellery as limited edition or one-off pieces which are designed to sit together and compliment each other whilst still being unique and individual. They offer a tribute to the beauty and preciousness of the exquisite micro botanical forms that inspired them.
