Following a degree in Art and Design at the University of Leeds, Daisy Church returned home to Cambridge after graduating in 2021. Her five younger siblings are often models for her works. Through hardground etching she explores the mundane realities of everyday living; domestic interiors are therefore of equal importance to the figures in the scene.
She also finds inspiration from the natural world, looking into the surface and textures of tree bark.
Her hardground etchings use aquatint, a printmaking technique that produces tonal effects by using acid to eat into the printing plate creating sunken areas which hold the ink. Other prints incorporate colour through the technique of chine collé, printing onto carefully selected coloured papers of different textures and transparencies.
