“Ephemera featuring handwriting are sourced, sections are extracted and combined with new metalwork, contemporary stories emerge. Fragments of handwriting appear as pattern with hints of original meaning. Contrasts of writing styles and character are important, and combining various characters result in new conversations.
Original postcards, stamps, maps, and photographs are layered with new metalwork influenced by markings in the writing and textures from our current urban environment. Silver is oxidised for a depth of colour and to allow papers to become the highlight. Yellow gold tube rivets are employed in construction and reference an industrial landscape.
Old and new sit together in each piece I create, referencing precious and non-precious, decorative next to simple areas, linear and solid.”
