Andy Dakin is a figurative artist who paints portraits, cityscapes and interior scenes in Cambridge. Often finding something surprising in terms of colour, tone and composition, Dakin says, “Though my work is realistic I aim to draw the viewer in with abstract qualities and hook them with something of the unexpected. I’ve always been excited by those works where you wonder ‘why did the artist do that?’ and that is what I hope to achieve too.”
Graduating with a Fine Art Degree in Manchester in 1991, Dakin then worked in local media in Cambridge taking thousands of photographs in the process. After more than a twenty-year hiatus he returned to painting and drawing in 2013, since then achieving ‘Visitor’s Favourite’ three times at the Cambridge Drawing Society’s biennial exhibition.
