Bleak Midwinter
Out of stock
Description:
In the Bleak Midwinter is one of my favourite carols. The words were written by Christina Rossetti. I studied her handwriting and replicated it for the lettering. I wanted to capture the cold, stark beauty of winter in this chilly panel.
The glass is mainly flashed so I was able to engrave the snow through both the glass paint and the thin layer of coloured glass that makes up the flash. The dress and scarf are cut from a single sheet of mouth-blown glass that went from crimson to vivid pink due to the varying amounts of gold in the molten glass when it was blown. The deeper the colour the more gold was used. It is the most expensive colour a glass artist can choose.
